Running Became My Way of Life

When I lost a racquetball game because I couldn′t move around the court quick enough weighing 196 pounds, I decided to start running to lose weight and to become a better racquetball player. I lost sixty pounds to a weight of 136 where I have remained for thirty years. I love running so much that I hardly ever play racquetball anymore, but I run everyday.

My daily regimen is getting up at 5 a.m. so there won′t be an excuse for why I didn′t run that day. I run outside on marked courses ranging up to 15 miles daily and average ten miles a day for thirty years. I love numbers and statistics and have recorded running 10,903 of the 10,950 days in thirty years totaling 119,943 miles.

I have a binder for each of the last thirty years with race applications, notes, and complete results when provided. I have run 1249 official races, won 431 trophies, 325 medals, 36 plaques, 16 turkeys, and 137 other awards for age group places. I never considered myself a fast runner and have an official best of 17:46 for 5k, 36:36 for 10k, 60:49 for 10 miles, 3:00:50 for the marathon, and running 106 miles on a track to win a 24 hour race. 102 times I have run 10Ks under 40 minutes.

However, I consider my major running accomplishment is that of volunteering at races including directing the one miler on Thanksgiving and working on the statistics for predictions for the four miler Poultry predictor for the last quarter century.
